Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. Simply put, Christ was the embodiment of Love. His birth and death represent God’s love for us all. Jesus’ steady message to all people was to love God and love your neighbor (that means everybody).
Christ’s definition of love is a favorite at many weddings and should be our guide in all our relationships throughout our lifetime…
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Yet where is love found in our holiday frenzy? The moment Thanksgiving is over our society starts a mad rush toward ‘celebrating’ the Christmas holiday with an overwhelming focus on SHOP and BUY. The message is rejoice, spend money (lots of money), party, celebrate and give, give, give (things that cost money of course), Christmas is coming!!!
This jolly season often triggers feelings of loneliness, sadness and depression in some and the urge to spend too much eat too much and drink too much in others. How can we shift the way we embrace the Christmas holiday this year to best serve ourselves and our loved ones?
How would it be different if you made all your choices and decisions from a place of love? Love when you are stuck in traffic. Love when you are impatiently standing on line and in a rush to get someplace. Love when you are talking to someone who pushes your buttons. Love not only when it is easy but more importantly when it is difficult.
Think love, be love, give love. You will receive back ten-fold the love which you put out. Start today. Take this month to give and receive the priceless gift of love.
