Planting the seeds of your future

By Karen McMahon

Now it’s time to get to work

You were looking at how you can fill up your free time, new and old hobbies and interests that may have fallen by the wayside.  Of course you might want to learn to skydive or to sail around the world, but for the sake of today’s assignment, keep it simple.  What can you do with your weekends or evenings that would bring you joy and fulfillment?

If money is an issue, decide on something that doesn’t cost much.  Perhaps you love to read but haven’t picked up a good long book in ages, what would it be like to find a book club and weave a social setting into your book reading.  Or you enjoy gardening and decide to take an adult education course or a local community college class.  Maybe you used to bike all the time and join a local bike club and spend some weekends on beautiful excursions with others who share your passion.

In today’s internet age, it is easy to connect with people who have similar likes as you.  What if you specifically did not enter this assignment hoping to find a partner, but rather just to enjoy yourself and meet new people, many of whom might be single?  How would it benefit you to tap into your desires and do something fun and interesting for yourself? Would it pass the time?  Might it spark something old and new inside of you?

Write us and tell how you are handling the newly found freedom and free time that comes with this season of divorce
