Making Time for Yourself

Guest Post by: Wendy Cuba-Danca

Don’t compromise yourself. You are all you’ve got.    – Janis Joplin

It is amazing how our lives can so easily become so busy that something so basic as taking care of yourself can get lost. It can seem like such a challenge to remind yourself daily how to take care of yourself first.  So this holiday season while you are filling your time with family and friends, you need to also schedule some time around self-care.  Elizabeth Lesser has given us some great tips on how to “Beat the Holiday Blues.” They include:

  • Breathe
  • Be kind to yourself
  • Laugh
  • Eat good quality food, slow and mindfully
  • Drink lots of water
  • Join a gym or take a yoga class, but do it right now. Don’t wait until Jan. 1st. You will be amazed how the littlest bit of movement will keep your spirits high
  • Reduce junk food, sugar and alcohol. This will keep down the blues.
  • Sleep  – do whatever it takes to get enough of it.
  • Develop habits that are easy and reliable to nurture your body.
  • Write down the things you love to do like taking a bath, reading a book, getting a massage or napping, and make time to do them.
  • Love –  love it all,  and love yourself.

Once you start to implement your form of self care each and every day you will thank yourself when you start to look and feel fabulous! What could be a better gift?

Some information was gathered from 10 Ways to Beat the Holiday Blues written by Elizabeth Lesser
