It is easy to be thankful for the good things…those who love and support us, gifts and monies that have come our way, our good health and material possessions that we have accumulated. But what of the difficult people and situations we face? How can we be grateful for our trials and tribulations? How do we find gratitude in those that push our buttons and cause us angst and upset? Our tribulations are in fact the rough within which the diamonds are found; the crucible through which our spirit is transformed.
It is not in the easy times that our character strengthens and grows, but rather the challenging ones. I once heard say that we are napping during our happiest days…delightfully resting with little value to our growth. However, when tossed around by the stormy seasons of our lives, we bare the fruit of personal development.
On this day of thanksgiving, look at your life through the lens of gratitude for all that you have become. Our greatest growth is born from life’s difficulties and challenging relationships. With each difficulty, we have the opportunity to learn or complain. What opportunities arose from the ashes of a dream or relationship lost? Rejoice with a grateful heart each day whether you are in the fire of refinement or the restful ease of a quiet moment.
How much more gracefully would we navigate our stormy days if our hearts were set on the inevitable emergence of the sun and the beauty of the majestic rainbow that follows.
